Asbury Park, New Jersey (March 8, 2021) – Visiting Nurse Association Health Group (VNA) and VNA of Central Jersey Community Health Centers (CHC) recently received a $5,000 grant from OceanFirst Foundation which was matched by OceanFirst Bank for a total of $10,000 in support of VNA and CHC’s efforts to administer the COVID-19 vaccine. The grant is part of OceanFirst Bank and other New Jersey headquartered banks and foundations’ $275,000 pledge to hospitals in support of vaccination efforts.
“Distribution of the vaccine is only the next step in the unprecedented challenges that the pandemic has presented,” said Christopher D. Maher, Chairman of OceanFirst Bank and OceanFirst Foundation. “We support our health care workers, hospitals and organizations as they collaborate in the effort to ensure as many eligible individuals as possible receive the vaccine.”
VNA and CHC together are actively mobilizing to provide vaccinations to eligible New Jersey residents. Early on, VNA realized the critical role community partners could play in this effort and worked collaboratively to establish vaccine sites in Monmouth County. VNA partnered with YMCA of Greater Monmouth County to provide COVID-19 vaccines to eligible residents at the Red Bank Family YMCA. It was the first satellite vaccination site in New Jersey. A few weeks later a site was established at Bell Works in Holmdel. Now, CHC is administering vaccines at several locations in Monmouth County and has provided more than 21,000 vaccinations since late December.
The OceanFirst grant will support the financial impact mobilizing vaccination has on the VNA and CHC. Insurance only reimburses a portion of providing the vaccine, leading the organizations to rely on philanthropic support to bridge the gap.
“Philanthropic support from community businesses and organizations is crucial to this effort,” says Christopher Rinn, CEO, VNA of Central Jersey Community Health Center. “Our staff has taken on the significant challenge to balance the ever-increasing demand with the unpredictable vaccine supply, to ensure as many eligible individuals as possible, secure a vaccine appointment.”
