For the second year, Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey (VNACJ) Community Health Center in Asbury Park will join the National Football League (NFL) and the American Cancer Society to host the NFL’s A Crucial Catch Day. This important event – among only 32 around the country – seeks to boost women’s access to breast cancer education and screenings by offering free cancer screenings, education and other resources.
The VNACJ Community Health Center was named a Community Health Advocate by the American Heart Society and received a National Grant for Empowerment (CHANGE) to increase breast cancer screening rates within the Jersey Shore area. The goal of Crucial Catch and the national grants are to partner with health service organizations to implement strategies that address the unequal burden of breast cancer within underserved communities across the country. The twelve-month project will begin with “A Crucial Catch Day – Screening Saves Lives” event on Tuesday, October 25, 2016. The free event will be held from 10am to 3pm at 1301 Main Street in Asbury Park will offer free education and screening opportunities for women and family-friendly activities for participants of all ages.
