Community Day Recap

Community Health Day is an annual festival held at the VNACJ Community Health Center (CHC) in Asbury Park to promote preventative services that help people avoid illness and improve their health. This year’s event held on June 11, included a bounce house for kids, a DJ for adults and various resources that the entire family could appreciate. More than 200 attendees enjoyed the festive atmosphere by participating in fun activities, giveaways, free medical screenings and of course dancing (because it’s not a party without dancing!)

A Fun Day for the Entire Family

Community Day Fun

Hula hooping was one of the favorite activities among kids in attendance.

Upon entering the festival you were greeted with a surplus of family fun activities. Kids played with hula hoops and arts and crafts while their parents entered in raffles for car seats and gift baskets. Booths for WIC, County Council for Young Children and Nurse-Family Practice were just some of the vendors providing resources for families in need. There was even a food truck to satisfy the craving for a summer hot dog or Italian ice.

CHC Staff gets the Party Started

Community Day Zumba

CHC staff rocks Community Day with zumba.

Music old and new radiated from the DJ booth. It wasn’t long before the CHC staff got up and started dancing with the Zumba instructor on site. Soon after, a crowd began to form, people feeling the music danced as they looked on in excitement. Even if you weren’t involved, it was fun just to spectate. The CHC’s dancing was uplifting and set the mood for the remainder of the event.

Keeping the Community in Good Health

Free screenings were available for all who attended

With all the fun and excitement, Community Health Day didn’t lose its focus on what really matters, keeping the community healthy. Aside from the helpful giveaways and education provided, the CHC offered numerous free health screenings which included mammograms, rapid HIV testing and blood pressure checks. The combined effort from the CHC staff, VNA Health Group staff and all the vendors made this Community Health Day both informative and entertaining for everyone who attended.
